INFIN8ENIGMA A NOVEL
This blog is in effect the drafting ground for a fictional series entitled infin8enigma (or if you would prefer Infinite Enigma).
This is the first work of fiction by Alain Dowd and was commenced with Chapter One – Rip’s Dream on Monday, March 19, 2012 (although the idea and schematic of the novel has been in development for over 10 years).
What’s it all about?
Although infin8enigma sits best alongside the ‘Fantasy Genre’, it includes elements of Science Fiction, Action, and even some existential philosophy for good measure. Although there is no intent to disenfranchise a child and youth audience, some subject matter may be considered more suitable for an adult audience and I suggest parental review in the same manner as any online content.
While a fictional work, the scope includes ‘why we are here?’ and a host of topics of interest to me because of their philosophical and human complexity. This means some influence by the thoughts of the day, scientific, philosophical and inevitably political and cultural. The work is meant to be fun (catharsis for me and hopefully entertaining and thought provoking for you). Each fictional group, character, world (yes world) and situation may have a profoundly different view point and should not be considered a reflection of my own. If contrasting philosophy and story lines that move between faith and science, nature and nurture, patriarchy and matriarchy, magic and universal forces cause you discomfort or offense (when an alternate view is presented), then this is not the place for you. This fiction does not aim to prove or disprove godhead and it is not a work of science fact or spiritual faith – please don’t make it one for yourself or others.
The author wishes ultimately to have this series published in print and adorning libraries, studies, bedrooms and other places that smell gloriously of paper based works of prose. Serious enquiries and support is most welcome, however the story arc is predetermined and the author will not depart from this regardless of commercial outcomes.
By the same token, this is ultimately a work of self-publishing and it is written with the hope (and authors enjoyment) of an audience, but not for the audience. In my wildest dreams I hope for popular but not populist. The great benefit of the ‘written within a blog’ approach is ‘in-draft’ feedback, early publication and the exposure of the creative process (to some degree). Please do not mistake this for shared authorship, as the story is my own work and it will follow the path that I give it without compromise. I may include suggestions and even ideas where they fit with the larger story, however if you are seeking recognition, reward or other compensation for engagement, again this is the wrong place as I guarantee none of those things. Participation should be only for the joy of being involved in the story – if it takes your pleasure as it stands. I guarantee nothing and everything is published ‘as is’.
I hope that if you share my curiosity and enjoy an epic yarn that may take decades in the telling (I hope). Then at this early stage, I hope that you join me.
Please start at the beginning with Chapter 1 – Obelisk and let’s begin what will amount to a serialized story. Catch up (if we have moved ahead) at a pace to your liking and I will write in the same way.
